Welcome to Koyama, a delightful gem nestled in the heart of Edinburgh at 20 Forrest Rd. This vibrant restaurant stands out for its authentic Japanese cuisine, specializing in small plates that capture the essence of traditional Japanese street food. With a phone number for reservations at +44 131 225 6555, it has quickly become a go-to destination for food enthusiasts.

Koyama offers a wide array of delectable dishes, but allow me to highlight some standout items from their menu:

  • Takoyaki: Indulge in five pieces of these fluffy octopus balls, drenched in a savory takoyaki sauce, each containing a delicious piece of octopus and Japanese mayonnaise. It's a quintessential street food experience.
  • Gyoza: Whether you opt for chicken or vegetables, these dumplings are a must-try. They're filled with flavorsome meat or veggies, lightly steamed and pan-fried to perfection, served with a delightful soy dressing.
  • Ramen: Choose from an assortment of broths, including the rich tonkotsu pork bone broth or the heartwarming vegan ramen, guaranteed to satisfy both meat lovers and plant-based eaters.
  • Salads: For a lighter option, explore the Kaisou salad, a refreshing seaweed medley, or the avocado crispy tofu lime salad, both vibrant and perfectly dressed.

What truly sets Koyama apart is not just the food but the atmosphere and service. Customers are consistently charmed by the attentive and friendly staff, who go above and beyond to enhance the dining experience. For instance, one patron, Ulziibayar, praised Hisha for her outstanding service, noting how she personalized recommendations to accommodate dietary needs.

The ambiance at Koyama is equally inviting. With tasteful décor and a warm atmosphere, it’s the perfect setting for a casual dinner or a vibrant gathering with friends. The customer service from Hisha was one of the best I’ve ever received. She goes the extra mile to help us, even with my phone out of battery, and made a lovely butterfly for my little child. She was really patient when I was deciding for the meals and made really good recommendations and even helped me customised the meals accordingly to my diet. The foods were really good especially the black garlic ramen. The noodle has very good chewy texture and very beautifully decorated as well!

Mentioned by comedian Ed Gamble (Great British Menu, Off Menu podcast) as a great place to go for Japanese food. I couldn't agree more. Beautiful, delicious food. Polite, attentive, friendly staff. Fast service (it was quiet in there) and a warm, convivial atmosphere. They didn't have takoyaki (octopus), so plumped for chilli squid, which was crispy, hot and succulent. Seabass nigiri was soft and delectable. Tamago (egg) hosomaki was light and sweet. Eye-watering crisp wasabi and zingy ginger, decent warm and smooth saké and a good selection of Japanese whiskey. Decently priced. Well worth a visit.

This was my first time visiting Edinburgh, and as a sushi lover, I ordered the salmon set. It was absolutely amazing! The chef served it with a big smile, which made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Delicious ramen! Good portions and good service! We had the vegetarian miso ramen and the Tonkotsu ramen and recommend both.

Fantastic food at a great price. The pork gyoza were crispy and filled with a great spicy filling. The fiery pork ramen had an amazingly spiced broth with very well cooked rolled pork belly. The charred scotch bonnet chilli was a great touch.
